Next year marks forty years since The Final Countdown took over the world, and Europe will celebrate with a major international tour making two stops in Sweden. On October 23, the band will play at Filmstudion in Gothenburg, and the following day, October 24, they will take the stage at B-K in Stockholm to honor the album that became one of the greatest phenomena in rock history.

When The Final Countdown was released in 1986, the album became a global sensation. The title track topped the charts in 25 countries, the album achieved multi-platinum status, and it remained on the U.S. Billboard chart for over 60 weeks. In the digital era, its success continues: in 2022, Europe became the first Swedish band to reach one billion views on YouTube for a single song – and today the video is approaching 1.4 billion views.

The upcoming The Final Countdown 40th Anniversary Tour will visit 12 countries and offer a unique concert experience. Europe will perform a career-spanning set that concludes with them playing the entire The Final Countdown album in full, only for the second time in the band’s history.

Since their breakthrough in the ’80s, Europe has remained a force on the rock scene. The band has released eight additional albums, toured the world, and received both a Classic Rock Award and a Grammy. The fact that they have kept their classic lineup intact also makes them one of the most unique and long-lived bands in the rock world.

2026 also marks a new chapter with the release of Europe’s 12th studio album, recorded at RMV Studios in Stockholm together with producer Tom Dalgety (Ghost, Pixies, Royal Blood, Opeth).

Joey Tempest says:
“In a blink of an eye 40 years have passed and we’re about to perform TFC in full for only the second time in our career, together with other hits and our favorite songs from our upcoming album. This will be amazing – we’re working hard on making the production and show match this very special occasion.”
